CHARACTER INFO
ARMADA SELECTION
Corsair. While Beat could fit in either armada for a number of reasons, there are more qualities about him that fit a corsair rather than a paladin. He's not afraid to break the rules or to go to against the grain when he thinks what he's doing is right, even going as far as aligning himself with the bad guys when it brings him closer to his own goals.
Also he has a pirate costume already. It's only right.

CHARACTER INFO
Character: Daisukenojo "Beat" Bito
Canon: Neo: The World Ends With You (post-game canon point), Songerein CRAU
Age: 18 (but 21 including Songerien years)
Background Information:

A New Day Plot from the Wiki
Neo: The World Ends With You Plot from Wikipedia
Beat will be coming in with Songerein CRAU but will not recall that he had been a part of the dream world originally, having been pulled into Escordvi when he was returning from a visit from home. As such, I will be playing him from the endgame of Neo: TWEWY for the next three months, up until the end of January where he regains his Songerein memories in one fell swoop. I've spoken to Lae about this as well and was given permission to proceed with this without needing to canon update him.
In Songerein, Beat was able to gain more independence, separate from both his sister and his parents. He has never had that kind of time for himself this way, having followed his parents' wishes and then dedicating the last three years of his life into searching for Neku. In his time there, he was able to explore more about what he was interested in, be it skateboarding, art, or music, to really get a feel for what he wanted to do with himself. He still hasn't figured out how he wants his future to look like, but he has become more thoughtful about it, hoping that he'll eventually find what brings meaning to his life.
He was also able to learn more about what was truly important to him, hand in hand with learning more about himself and his values. Through the friends and acquaintances he made along the way, Beat learned about how love may come in many ways, and that he had the capacity to love more than one person. Through that, he also learned of his own boundaries, and how he may not be able to keep everyone happy in the end as much as he wishes he could. While he still has a long way to go, Beat has slowly matured from a teenager to a young adult in Songerein, curious to learn more about himself and what it means to grow up.
Personality:
1) Tell us about who your character is and what someone’s first impression would be upon meeting them.
The best way to preface Beat’s personality is that despite how he looks, he’s an all-around good guy. And a big softie at that, too. He may look and talk like a punk-ass emo and act tough around people, but Beat has a very good heart, constantly putting others before himself.
His selflessness is shown repeatedly throughout the course of the two games. He did everything that he could to bring his sister Rhyme back to life, even attempting to take down the Composer, the mastermind behind the Reaper's Game. After the Game, when Neku is shot and disappears, Beat dedicates the next three years of his life to find his closest friend, not believing that Neku was truly dead. Even in Songerien, he puts himself in harm's way to protect Futaba from the large Shadow of her mother, not caring if he gets hurt in the process. Though it may come off that he has a bit of a martyr complex, he is willing to show up and go through such lengths for the people who are important to him.
Because of this Beat could be perceived as loud, brash, and reckless. Most people will be able to see that in an instant with how he speaks and carries himself. He attracts attention, even without meaning to, and acts cocky, acting so sure of himself even if he battles with his own insecurities and self-worth. It's not something that he wants others to see after all.
But once you become friends with him, it's easy to see that he wears his heart on his sleeve. As hard as he tries to mask it, his true emotions always shine though. When he truly trusts someone, he isn't scared to be vulnerable around them, because as much as he puts up a brave front, he's oddly self-aware that he has his own flaws too.
Behind his cockiness, Beat is a straight-up good guy who only wants the best for his the people around him.
2) What is a driving force your character has? What goals do they have, what motivates them, etc?
Beat is a protector, having a lot of space to care and love others than he's willing to admit sometimes. This stems from his protective nature as Rhyme's older brother, always looking out for her and being her personal cheerleader.
A part of this is because he feels like he owes her from the first Reaper's Game. Though she was brought back to life, she lost her entry fee of her dreams in the process. He feels that he is at fault for this, and does what he can to help her find a new dream, which she eventually does when she shows interest in computers and hacking. Unlike him, Rhyme has a bright future ahead of her, and he wants to protect and nurture that. All he wants in return is that she knows that he always has her back, no matter what.
This extends to his friends as well, willing to gas them up and cheer them on whenever they need it, or just be there when they need an ear or a shoulder to lean on. If there is some way he could protect others from getting hurt, even at his own expense, you can damn well count on Beat throwing himself in-between them and whatever danger they’re facing, even if it is physical.
His goals, though, he hasn't quite figured out yet. While he wants to be able to protect others, he's never given himself the time to figure out what he wants to achieve for himself. He's told Rhyme that he wants to be the world's greatest skateboarder, but that was before Neku died and his priorities shifted. There is still a lot that Beat has to learn and figure out for himself.
3) What are their flaws as a character? What is something they've messed up, or have done that they regret?
Without missing a beat, he will say that his biggest screw-up was getting himself and Rhyme killed when a car hits the both of them after he fought with their parents and she gave chase after him. This led to them joining the Reaper's game. Anyone who joined the Reaper's Game had to give up whatever was most important to them as their entry fee. For Beat, it was his sister's love for him. For Rhyme, it was her dreams. From the get-go, Beat wanted to win the Game to be able to have a second chance at life, and for the both of them to regain their entry fees.
Unfortunately, things didn't play out that way.
During the fourth day, Rhyme was erased from existence after Beat recklessly walked into a trap set up by the Reapers. Rhyme noticed this and pushed him out of harm's way, leading to her erasure. Beat lives with a lot of survivor's guilt and does everything in his power to bring her back. But because she had effectively died, she never got her entry fee back when they where brought back to life in the Real Ground.
He hasn't forgiven himself for that incident, still blaming himself for the misfortune that befell his sister. If it wasn't for his impulsiveness, she may have had a fighting chance to finish the Game with him, and thus never losing her dreams to begin with.
4) Optional: What is something unique and interesting about them, or what is a fun little tidbit that sets them apart from the crowd?
Beat absolutely hates his given name "Daisukenojo", thinking it can be perceived as weak. He will do everything in his power to keep others from finding out or will even shout loud enough to mask someone from saying it aloud.
Abilities & Inventory:
Beat's abilities from the wiki
While in the UG, Beat has the latent ability to use Soundsurf, which allows him and those he syncs up with to move at high speeds to the beat of his music.
With the use of the Player Pin that's given to every Player in the Reaper's Game, Beat can hear the thoughts of other people around him by scanning and blocking other players from hearing his own thoughts. It is untested whether this works outside of the Game and UG. It's unlikely that Beat will use it if it even did work unless the situation calls for it.
Beat also can use psyches and harness the power of these from other pins. This could be anything from controlling various elements (fire, water, lightning, etc), healing abilities, or straight-up telekinesis depending on the pin being wielded.
Beat is also hinted to be a decent skateboarder in the first game.
As for his inventory, it will simply consist of the clothes on his back, his headphones, his smartphone, the player pin, and the Burnin' Boar pin. His smartphone will not work with regard to sending out messages and making calls, but can still act as a music player.
